Social Skills: Teaching Personal Space

Writer's picture: Huntsville Behavior AssocHuntsville Behavior Assoc

It’s Week 4 of our Summer Social Skills Groups and we are learning all about Personal Space Bubbles today!

.

.

If your child struggles to interpret the “nonverbal social cues” of someone else (I.e., looking annoyed, avoiding eye contact, turning away, stepping back), then they may frequently invade the personal space of others. By using tangible objects to model + role play personal space scenarios, as well as direct teaching about how “bursting the personal space bubble” makes others feel, today we are one step closer to respecting the space of others! This social skill deficit can be seen in people of all ages, not just children who have not been taught the skill. If you know someone that struggles with personal space, find a nice way to tell them! The first step to change is teaching. We are excited for a day of fun!
